Does the boat have a roof?
Yes, two-thirds of the boat is covered. The front section is open to the sunshine.
Do you have a restroom on board?
Yes. Captain Jim installed a very nice full-size flush toilet in 2005. It’s the same as you would find in an RV.
Do you have life jackets?
Yes, absolutely. We have life jackets to fit all ages and sizes, from infants to toddlers to adults weighing 250 pounds.
What happens when it rains?
It depends. If there is light rain, the cruise can continue on schedule. If there is any danger due to wind or lightning, Captain Jim will cancel the cruise. We want everyone to feel comfortable and have a good time.
What do you see on a cruise?
You will always see our favorite, the great blue heron. You are very likely to see several other birds. Depending on the season and the birds’ movements, you could see kingfishers, cliff swallows, bank swallows, American bald eagles, osprey, double-crested cormorants, prothonotary warblers, mallard ducks, wood ducks, wild turkeys, white herons, and Canada geese. Occasionally we see other wildlife such as a deer, raccoon, otter, groundhog or snake.
What ages enjoy the boat?
Where do your cruises go?
Some cruises head east (towards Nashville), and others head west (towards Clarksville). Captain Jim sometimes selects the direction based on the current wind, water and weather conditions. Besides traveling on the Cumberland River, you are likely to visit a smaller waterway: Brush Creek, Marrowbone Creek, the Harpeth River or Sycamore Creek. (Please note that we do not travel to Nashville; it would take 3-1/2 hours one way.) Sunset Cruises usually travel through Brush Creek (east) or around Harpeth Island (west); both directions offer terrific views of the sunset.
